Building solutions to global problems

Engineering is an exciting multidisciplinary field offering outstanding graduate prospects. The world we live in has been designed by engineers and they’ll be at the forefront of creating a sustainable world for the future.

Here at Bradford, we emphasise the skills needed to work in engineering by providing excellent opportunities to do practical work in small groups. Our multidisciplinary first year helps students develop knowledge about other engineering disciplines.

We offer six engineering disciplines:

  • Architectural Engineering and Architectural Technology - combining the art of design and construction
  • Biomedical - using technology to develop medicine and healthcare
  • Chemical - large-scale chemical and biochemical processes in which materials undergo change
  • Civil and Structural - the conception, design, construction and maintenance of the built environment
  • Mechanical - the broadest of all the engineering disciplines combining design, materials science and computational methods
  • Softwareat the heart of modern technology, playing a key role in industries such as mathematics, computer science and cyber security

National Student Survey feedback from our engineering students is outstanding; for example our BEng and MEng Chemical Engineering (with Placement) courses received 100% overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2021.

Student satisfaction

Our BEng and MEng Chemical Engineering (with Placement) programmes received 100% overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2021.

Our BEng Mechanical Engineering programme received 91% overall satisfaction.

A career in the fast lane

Stephanie Travers graduated with a BEng in Chemical Engineering in 2016 and now works as Trackside Fluid Engineer for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

She recently became the first black woman to stand on the F1 podium.

this is where

...I started again

Tina Bentley, MEng Chemical Engineering

"A good chunk of the course was lab based in years 1 and 2. This year, it’s more kind of putting into practice.

"There's specific engineering computer rooms, that’s the main resource that we use. They’ve got all the computer programmes you could need. You’ve got all your basics, Microsoft, Visio and then they’ve got MATLAB, Aspin which is a Chemical Engineering design programme which you can’t get, you can’t download it, it costs thousands so it’s really good software."

...I got involved

Benjamin Fadele - BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering

"After I’d done my GCSEs, I decided I’d like to do something involving Maths or Chemistry. My Chemistry teacher and my mum both suggested Engineering so I had a look at all the options available. I chose Chemical Engineering because it involves a bit of everything and I don’t want to be limited at this stage – I think I have commitment issues! I’m open to all the different diverse career fields I could go into.

“I spent time studying the league tables to look at the options I had. I came to Bradford to have a look and I liked it because it’s fairly small – especially my department – which meant it felt really supportive."
