This is where I progress my career

“I wanted to study at a university that was highly regarded in the engineering community, and the University of Bradford was recommended time and time again. The course supervisor is also well known as being one of the top people in the engineering field, so that helped make my decision to study here an easy one.

"The team at Bradford were so welcoming when I arrived. Bradford is a really friendly, multicultural and inclusive city with much lower living costs than many other UK cities, and the University is such a great place to complete a PhD.

"After completing my PhD I worked at the University of Bradford as a Post-Doctoral Researcher. Without the support from everybody at the University I couldn’t have done any of these things, and I credit them with enabling me to gain the skills I need to pursue an exciting career in research and academia."

This is where I took my opportunities

"I chose Bradford because I knew it would give me the best opportunities to achieve my career goals. Graduating with a first class honours in 2020, during a pandemic, was a great achievement. But what should I do next? Work? Stay and get more qualifications?

"I decided to do both. I got a part-time job with The Working Academy in Bradford for two days a week, and applied for a Master's to gain more experience in my field. On researching different options, it seemed Cyber Security was the most in demand in terms of job roles, and as I’m focused on getting the most successful career after university, that was what sealed my decision.

"I’m inspired by my dad, who is a businessman. I feel that with the knowledge and skills I’ve learnt at Bradford and my rich life experience in the UK, I can go back and help him digitise his catering business in Saudi Arabia."

This is the platform I need to succeed

"We are encouraged to think independently, which is different from my previous study approach. Every time I learn, I adapt, and the support is there at every stage from the Bradford team. When I ask anything from my tutors, they are always so helpful.

"The labs on campus really look like the ones you see in the real world, with all the equipment you need and the chance to administer prescriptions. I’ve also been working in an NHS vaccination centre, vaccinating people against Covid-19, which has been an amazing experience and I’ve enjoyed being part of the atmosphere at the centre.

"My plan is to work in the UK in my field for the next 7-10 years so that when I go back to Egypt, I can bring all my skills and experience and make a real difference, not only to my family’s business but to the pharma industry in Egypt. Being at Bradford has really helped me focus my vision."
