My time at the University of Bradford was filled with treasured memories. From the victorious moment of graduation to enjoyable social events like the barbecue party, and from the transformative experience of living abroad to active involvement in sports teams and societies, each aspect contributed to my personal and academic growth. I am grateful for the diverse range of experiences that shaped me into the individual I am today.

Journey to Bradford

"I decided to pursue my studies in Bradford due to the city's vibrant multicultural atmosphere and the diverse community present both within the University and the surrounding area. As someone hailing from a Middle Eastern culture, I found the prospect of immersing myself in such a rich and inclusive environment highly appealing."

"I decided to pursue postgraduate study because I wanted to further advance my career prospects in the IT and AI sector. After completing my undergraduate degree, I recognized the need to deepen my knowledge and expertise in a specific field to stand out in the competitive job market. That's why I chose to undertake an MSc in Big Data Science and Technology, which perfectly aligned with my career aspirations."

Favourite Memory

"During my time at the University of Bradford, I have had numerous memorable experiences that have left a lasting impression on me. One of my favorite memories was undoubtedly the exhilarating moment of my graduation when I confidently walked across the stage, proudly flashing a victory sign. It was a culmination of all the hard work and dedication I had put into my studies, and it is a memory that I will cherish forever.

"Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions during the first term and a significant portion of the second term, I managed to participate in some delightful spring and summer activities. Among these, a barbecue party stands out in my mind as a truly enjoyable social event. It provided a much-needed opportunity to connect with fellow students and unwind amidst a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, I had the chance to engage in friendly matches of ping pong and volleyball, which added a sense of fun and camaraderie to my university experience."

Career journey

"After graduating, my job search journey focused on the IT and AI sectors, where I aimed to leverage my IT experience and the knowledge I acquired during my MSc program in data science. To find suitable employment opportunities, I adopted an approach that involved exploring emerging domains that required a combination of both my IT skills and expertise in AI.

"While the job search process was not overly difficult, it did require diligent effort to identify the ideal position that aligned with my career goals. I dedicated time and energy to research various organizations, their projects, and their commitment to technological advancements. This allowed me to identify companies at the forefront of IT and AI innovation, offering roles that suited my skill set and aspirations.

"In summary, my job search journey after graduation involved targeting IT and AI roles, exploring emerging domains, and conducting thorough research on potential employers. While it required effort, the process was not excessively difficult. For current students, I recommend seeking opportunities within transformational environments like KTP projects, actively networking, and remaining adaptable to new possibilities in the ever-evolving IT and AI industry.

"I am currently working as Expert Software & Medical AI Engineer, a role funded by the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) and in collaboration with the University of Bradford and Vision Surgery. The project aims to develop an innovative expert system to enhance the efficiency and scalability of refractive cataract and lens surgery. The system enables surgeons to achieve exceptional visual outcomes without the need for spectacles in patients undergoing these surgeries. The project involves leveraging secured software development expertise to create a centralized and intelligent expert system software platform, integrating patient scans and data from diverse sources."

My Advice

"Drawing from my own experience, I would like to offer some advice to current students seeking jobs in the IT and AI industry. Firstly, I recommend exploring opportunities within transformational environments that bridge the gap between academic life and the business world. In the UK, Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects serve as excellent avenues for such experiences. I strongly encourage both international and domestic students, whether at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, to consider these initiatives.

"Additionally, networking plays a crucial role in the job search process. Engage in industry events, conferences, and online communities related to IT and AI. Establish connections with professionals already working in the field, as they can provide insights, guidance, and potential job leads. Maintaining an updated online presence, such as a LinkedIn profile, can also increase visibility and attract recruiters.

"Lastly, while focusing on the IT and AI sectors, it is essential to stay adaptable and open to new possibilities. Technology is continuously evolving, and new job roles and opportunities may emerge. By staying informed about industry trends, expanding one's skill set, and embracing lifelong learning, students can position themselves for success in this dynamic and rapidly changing field."
