Overview

At the University of Bradford we've been teaching pharmacy since 1927, and are experts in preparing students for the world of clinical practice.

Our innovative degree programme, delivered predominantly by Team-Based Learning (TBL), has been designed by pharmacists, educators, students and employers to ensure that you will graduate not only with the necessary knowledge and skills of a pharmacy graduate, but also with the confidence, communication, team-working, and problem-solving skills needed to secure employment. Our classes simulate the workplace and you will work in small teams to solve real-world problems, many of which are brought into the classroom from pharmacy practice by our team of pharmacist teacher-practitioners.

On graduation, you will then need to complete a 1-year Foundation period in order to become a qualified pharmacist.

You leave us fully prepared for contemporary pharmacy practice, and with the skills and confidence to succeed and achieve your full potential in your future employment.

Professional accreditation

Entry into the profession of pharmacy is regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Our MPharm programme is accredited.

Entry requirements

At Bradford, we take into consideration a number of factors when assessing your application.

Please note that all Level 3 qualifications need to be completed within a three-year timeframe to be eligible for entry onto this programme.

A levels

AAB, to include Chemistry or Biology and one other Science subject (Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Psychology) required at minimum AB. General Studies or Critical Thinking is not accepted as the third A level subject.

Please note that where a science A level is taken, the University will require applicants to pass the practical element (for A levels awarded from August 2017 onwards).

T levels

Not accepted for this course.

BTEC Extended Diploma

Applicants who have taken the new BTEC Extended Diploma assessed by written examinations and coursework: DDD. Applied Science with a minimum of four Chemistry or Biology units at Distinction.

For applicants who have taken the BTEC Extended Diploma assessed by coursework only: DDD. Applied Science with minimum of four Chemistry or Biology units at Distinction AND either A level Chemistry or A level Biology at grade B.

Applicants on Access Programmes

136 UCAS tariff points from an Access to Higher Education Diploma - Science subject required. Must include a minimum of 12 credits of Chemistry or Biology at Distinction and 12 credits at Distinction in one other Science subject.

International Baccalaureate Requirements

136 UCAS tariff points to include either HL Chemistry or Biology at Grade 6, 1 other HL Science subject at Grade 6 and a third HL subject at Grade 5. Plus HL 2 or SL 2 in Maths and HL 6 or SL 6 with no subskills less than 5 in English A or HL 7 with no subskills less than 5 with no subskills less than 7 in English B (SL English B not accepted).

Plus minimum of

Five GCSEs at grade C or grade 4, including English Language, Maths (note: GCSE English Language and Maths equivalences will not be accepted) and two sciences (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Combined Science).

7.0 overall with no sub-test less than 6.0

Core

Fundamentals of Pharmacy Science

To enable students to understand and develop their knowledge of and skills in supporting themselves and others in their learning and development, along with the verbal, numeric and written academic skills required to develop as a future pharmacist.

To enable students to understand and develop their knowledge of and skills in the underlying theories and concepts of:

- How the body works in health and disease.

- What a drug is and how drugs are designed.

- How drugs work on the body.

- How the body affects drugs.

Fundamentals of Pharmacy Practice

This module will introduce you to all aspects of pharmacy practice and build a strong foundation for the subsequent stages of the programme. You will explore the journey of the patient though the pharmacy, and bring together the legal, professional and public health aspects of pharmacy practice to provide a person-centred approach to healthcare services. You will also be guided through the scaffolding provided to develop yourself as a future pharmacist.

Second year

Core

Integrated Pharmacy Science and Practice

To enable students to integrate the core knowledge, practical and clinical skills, together with the professional attributes and behaviours that students developed in stage 1 of the programme to:

- Develop and apply understanding of various aspects of body systems from physiological, pathological, therapeutic, legal, ethical and clinical perspectives to provide safe, effective care.

- Further develop the professional skills, attitudes and behaviours required of a future pharmacist.

- Support themselves and others in their learning and development.

Third year

Core

Fundamentals of Person-Centred Care

To enable students to integrate the knowledge of different body systems developed in Stage 2 along with further development of the necessary clinical reasoning, prioritising, and evidence-based decision-making capabilities to respond to the undifferentiated needs of patients and develop management plans for them.

To further develop the professional skills, attitudes and behaviours required of a future pharmacist; to continue to support themselves and others in their learning and development.

Fourth year

Core

Professional Training 1 - Non Credit Bearing

Placement module 1.

Person-Centred Care

To build on previous learning, further developing knowledge and skills to ensure delivery of person-centred care to ensure safe and effective care of individuals with complex needs.

To enable students to critically appraise and meet the identified competencies of the role of a pharmacist.

Final year

Core

Placement module 2.

Safe Prescribing, Research and Development

To build on previous learning, further developing knowledge and skills to ensure public safety.

To enable students to critically appraise and meet identified competencies of the role of a pharmacist.

Teaching, learning and assessment

Our award-winning Pharmacy programme has been designed by nationally acclaimed pharmacy educational experts with input from pharmacy employers, patients and our alumni.

The programme is predominantly taught using an innovative and active learning method called Team-Based Learning (TBL).

In TBL classes you will actively practice applying your knowledge to solve real-world pharmacy problems through team discussion and class debate facilitated by our expert academic staff.

TBL develops your confidence, your problem-solving skills, and the communication and team skills necessary for employment in pharmacy.

Fees, finance and scholarships

Tuition fee

UK: £10,050 per year
International: £17,312 per year

The University of Bradford will charge home rate tuition fees up to the maximum allowed by the UK Government. For 2027/28, those fees are still to be confirmed.

Should the UK Government choose to increase the maximum tuition fee allowed in the second and subsequent years of your course, the University will raise tuition fees in line with UK Government policy and approvals.

Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE)
