This innovative interdisciplinary programme is designed to prepare you with the knowledge, skills and experience to successfully apply for a wide range of graduate roles related to health, wellbeing and social care in public, private or voluntary organisations.
The programme is designed for people who want to work flexibly, innovatively and responsibly with individuals or communities to improve their health and wellbeing by tackling social disadvantage and health inequalities.
You will develop a critical understanding of the skills required for the delivery of health and social care services. A key strength of the programme is the focus on enterprise, employability and entrepreneurship. This prepares students for employment in areas such as health promotion, public health and 3rd sector services.
Programme content identifies economic, social and environmental factors that influence our health, and emphasises the need for strategic initiatives through partnerships between health, social care and other public, private and voluntary sector organisations.
This course was previously named BSc Health, Wellbeing and Social Care.
You will be taught by a multi-disciplinary team of academics that has a wide range of professional experience in the health, wellbeing and social care sectors. This includes nurses both adult and mental health, social workers, housing support workers, health managers, psychologists, sociologists and epidemiologists. You will benefit from the vocational experience of the team as this will enrich your learning and teaching environment through the use of real life case studies. In addition all members of the teaching team are Fellows of the Higher Education Academy.
You will develop a portfolio of evidence to support and prepare you for employment as part of the programme. You will also learn team working skills required to be an effective member of an interdisciplinary group of professionals.
In your final year you will learn the essential skills of project management and work with others to organise and run a University wide Health & Wellbeing Fair. This is always a vibrant and exciting day for students and it establishes links with local community organisations that support us on the day, many of our students have appeared in the local press as a result of their ongoing work following the event.
You will develop the knowledge, skills and practice required to apply for a wide range of employment opportunities available to those that want to work with people or communities to improve their health & wellbeing. You will learn to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, deal with the daily challenges of the healthcare system, and manage a variety of situations under pressure.

Applicants on Access Programmes:
Meet UCAS tariff of 112. Health Professions, Science or Social Science subject required.
Plus minimum of:
GCSE English at grade C or grade 4. Level 2 equivalencies are accepted.

All applicants need to be able to demonstrate that they have an active interest in health and social care.
Disclosure and Barring Service
All places are offered subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure. This is due to the fact that you may be required to work with children or vulnerable adults on your placement, and will need to demonstrate that you can safely work with these groups of people.

Minimum IELTS at 6.5 or the equivalent.

Learning activities and assessment
Teaching methods include formal lectures, seminars, group work and tutorials, supported by Blackboard which is a virtual learning environment. This is used to access additional learning resources and will let you participate in online group discussions and activities.
Assessment strategies will aim to develop both knowledge and skills and include written assessment, verbal and poster presentations, reflective accounts and case studies.
We are committed to producing graduates with key transferrable skills for employability. Placements will be in settings relevant to your own personal, professional and academic interests and will enable you to work with individuals and communities proactively making a difference to the quality of their lives.
We work collaboratively with employers and local stakeholders to secure opportunities that will enable you to link theoretical concerns of the programme to your practice learning and to gain valuable practical skills, knowledge and experience.
During your placement you will learn to work responsibly and professionally, demonstrate enterprise and entrepreneurial skills and learn how to project manage.
You will be supported by a work-based learning co-ordinator and you will attend a variety of bespoke sessions to prepare you for placement along with an annual work based learning convention where you will meet local employers.
Career support and prospects
The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.
Discussing options with specialist advisers helps to clarify plans through exploring options and refining skills of job-hunting. In most of our programmes there is direct input by Career Development Advisers into the curriculum or through specially arranged workshops.
90% of our 2016 graduates in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care found employment or went on to further study within six months of graduating.*
This programme will enable you to work in a diverse range of health and social care graduate-level positions.
Graduates have entered roles as health trainers, housing support officers and pathway care navigators. Other graduates enter services such as health promotion, public health, healthy living centres, and drug and alcohol services. Other areas of work have included working with sufferers of domestic violence, supporting people with mental health problems, social enterprises, voluntary, charity and third sector organisations such as Barnardo’s.
Some graduates have entered postgraduate programmes leading to a teaching qualification or registerable qualifications such as social work, nursing and midwifery.
The Faculty of Health Studies offers a variety of short courses and postgraduate study options through its ongoing Specialist Skills and Post-Registration development (SSPRD) which allow health and social care professionals to specialise in areas of interest such as public health, equality and diversity and leadership and health management. A considerable number of students chose to pursue post graduate study in social work at Bradford or nursing at a number of local universities.
The average starting salary for our 2016 Health, Wellbeing and Social Care graduates was £17,022.*

You will be taught by an academic team who are research active in Vitamin D and paediatric infections, barriers to health screening for tuberculosis, infertility, teenage pregnancy, usage of food banks and cultural competency of health and social care workers.
