University of Bradford’s very own Formula Student team is in the process of building a race car from scratch... and they're looking for sponsors.

Team Bradford aims to take the finished car to Silverstone as part of the annual Formula Student event, which is held the week after the British Grand Prix.

Team manager Syed Badar, a third year BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering student, said: “Our aim is to take our race car to Silverstone to take part in the annual Formula Student event in July.

“Formula Student is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get involved in a project that ultimately means they will get to put skills they have learned into practice on a real life project.”

He added: “When I was looking at doing my degree, Formula Student was one of the things that made me want to come to Bradford.”

Teammate Darshan Suresh, who is studying a MSc in Automotive Systems Engineering, said: “There are lots of opportunities here to learn transferable skills. We’re a small team and all the work on the car is done in our spare time. We would welcome support from all quarters, particularly sponsors.”

Dr David Bryant, Associate Professor in Automotive Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering & Digital Technologies, said joining Formula Student presented a unique opportunity.

“Formula Student offers students a unique opportunity to be part of a prestigious event in which they can apply their skills and abilities to demonstrate and develop the essential characteristics which employers are seeking.”

Just like their Formula 1 counterparts, in addition to the engineers building the race car, the team has to manage  marketing, media, project planning, administration, and securing sponsors.
