My ultimate goal is to qualify as a clinical psychologist and practise in the UK.  This course is a crucial stepping stone toward that ambition. So far, the course has strengthened my academic foundation and built on the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career. I would absolutely recommend this programme.

Entry requirements

  • An undergraduate degree that is at least 2:2 in any subject area.
  • Maths GCSE Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
  • English GCSE Grade 4 or above (or equivalent)

Applications are welcome from students with non-standard qualifications or returners to study (those over 21 years of age on entry) with significant relevant experience. This includes applicants who have undertaken a BPS-accredited psychology degree, but who have failed to achieve accreditation. Applicants who already have a BPS-accredited psychology degree are not eligible to apply.

English language requirements

IELTS at 6.5 or the equivalent.

Module

Teaching, learning and assessment

Teaching will take the form of bite-size segments, so you can easily fit your studies into your everyday life. The materials will consist of pre-recorded lectures and seminars, videos, podcasts, and other online resources that you can access at a time that suits you.

You will have a dedicated online student community, a bespoke study plan, and pastoral care and study support from your own Personal Academic Tutor. Thanks to cutting-edge research, you will have the opportunity to engage in advanced theoretical debates relevant to the understanding of contemporary issues in society.

You will require a laptop or a PC and a good internet connection to participate in this course.

Postgraduate Master's Loan

If you live in England you may be able to apply for a special Government-funded Master's Loan to help pay your tuition fees and living costs.
You don't have to pay the loan back until you're earning a certain amount of money.

This degree empowers you to achieve long-term growth and leadership within your career path. The advanced insights and research skills you'll gain from this programme will give you a competitive edge. Your deeper understanding of psychology may help you move into more senior, specialist or leadership roles.  

For example, if you work in HR, you might take on greater responsibility in areas like recruitment, training and development. You'll also be better equipped to handle challenging situations in the workplace. Or, if you are a schoolteacher, especially if you work with special educational needs, you'll be better placed to make a more meaningful impact on student development. This may lead to advancing into management positions.  

This programme is also a stepping stone to beginning the professional qualifications to become a psychologist (HCPC – Health and Care Professions Council qualification), or a psychotherapist or counsellor (BACP – British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy qualification).

Career support

The University is committed to helping students develop and enhance employability and this is an integral part of many programmes. Specialist support is available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services including help to find part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work and graduate vacancies. Students are encouraged to access this support at an early stage and to use the extensive resources on the Careers website.

Discussing options with specialist advisers helps to clarify plans through exploring options and refining skills of job-hunting. In most of our programmes there is direct input by Career Development Advisers into the curriculum or through specially arranged workshops.
