Why did you decide to study at the University of Bradford?

I've always been interested in how things work and solving problems, Mechanical Engineering gives me access to a range of sectors and the added opportunity to work on some of the most interesting problems available.

What's been a highlight of your time at Bradford so far?

It has to be my study abroad experience. I spent a month in Beijing during the Easter holidays and it opened up a whole new way of life. I learnt about Chinese culture, I found areas like calligraphy and the Chinese brand of acrobatics to be very interesting. I was able to connect with other students from around the UK and, although it was difficult, I got to learn a bit of Mandarin!

Have you been involved in any sports, clubs or societies?

In my two years at University I have been involved in loads of different sports including Football, Katana-Jiu-Jitsu and Tennis.

The main society I have been involved in has been the Catholic Society where I was one of the execs last year.

What experiences have you gained at Bradford that will help you in the future?

The main thing I've gained is an appreciation and understanding of people from different cultures, this is especially crucial in a world where needing to be able to connect to people from various cultures is very important.

I have also benefited professionally from my placement year, the various employability skills sessions and networking opportunities on offer.

What are your ambitions for the future and plans after you graduate?

Immediately after I graduate I'm planning to get onto the British Council’s scheme to study and work in China for 8 weeks. After that, I will be looking to travel for a few weeks in the region.

Longer term I'm looking to do a Master's in Mechanical Engineering either abroad or in London.

What advice would you give to students who are thinking of applying to study Mechanical Engineering?

It's a course that gives you great career options and opportunities to work on some of the most important issues of our time.

It’s an area of study that you won't regret pursuing, it will give you a great set of skills that employers in areas outside of engineering are looking for.
