Aims:
- Dispel myths and explain what doing a research degree at Bradford looks like
- Discuss your proposed research project and your motivation for doing it
- Introduce the research degree milestones and what’s required from you

How to plan your research project
Having a project plan is essential to getting your research project off to a good start and support timely completion of your activities including ethics, data collection and writing your thesis. This session will introduce the basics of research project management and preparing a project plan as a progression requirement.
Aims:
- Take your research question and translate it into aims and goals for your project
- Explain the importance of actions, tasks and prioritisation for time management and work/life balance
- Help you create project plans for the first year and until completion of your research degree

Risks in your research and how to manage them
All research projects should be assessed for risks so researchers can predict and reduce the impact of hazards. Researchers also need to ensure the project is carried out safely and in accordance with Bradford’s Health and Safety policy. As creating a risk assessment is required for your research degree progression, this session will explain the process and terminology you’ll be using.

- Introduce you to risk management for research projects
- Encourage you to discuss potential risks in your research
- Help you understand the risk assessment process and documentation

How to manage your supervisors
The supervisory relationship is the most important for you as a PGR. Being able to create good working practices and communication with them is essential. This session will explain what the role of the supervisor is for research degrees.

- Clarify Bradford’s expectations of its supervisors and PGRs
- Give guidance on how to work well with your supervisors
- Provide tips from fellow PGRs on the supervisory relationship and processes

PGR expectations and responsibilities: things you need to know
This session will cover introductions to your Postgraduate Research Administration Team and how they support you throughout your research degree, as well as key guidance and resources you will need to for your studies at Bradford. You will also be introduced to the central services that are available to you, such as MyBradford, UBU, Careers, Counselling and Wellbeing Services, Health & Safety etc. For those of you on a student visa, there will also be an essential visa informational session at the end.

Every researcher needs to find relevant and useful sources of literature to provide context and support for their research, and manage these sources efficiently. This workshop will:
- Introduce the Library’s tools and resources, and how to use them to find literature
- Provide literature search techniques to help you start your literature engagement work
- Introduce reference management and how to use it from the start of your degree
