Film Production

The university is welcoming to productions for film and television, with a wealth of experience understanding the needs of location and unit managers. As well as location filming, production support can be provided for companies shooting around the city centre and wider district. It's not unusual to see 100 extras in Victorian period dress all queuing up for makeup in the middle of campus!

Please contact our Media Relations Team or the Bradford Film Office for further information.

Bradford - UNESCO City of Film

The City of Bradford is proud to be designated a UNESCO City of Film. In fact, it was the first city in the world to receive this designation, thanks to the history and heritage of film technology and production within the district. In 2019 we celebrated 10 years of the UNESCO award. There are now eighteen cities of film across the world.

The Bradford Film office is based on campus, and receives support from the university to help deliver film education within the district and production facilities to producers.

With a large selection of teaching spaces and conferencing facilities, the university has a number of areas that can be used for large productions and cast facilities. Previous support work has included interior costume and makeup facilities for 120 extras on BBC One's "The ABC Murders", and 100 extras for "Gentleman Jack" whilst shooting in the city.

Additional unit base space can be arranged adjacent to these areas as required.

Dating back to 1965, the university has a wide range of locations suitable for historical and contemporary drama production, from sympathetically restored Victorian architecture through 1960's "plate glass" buldings, 1980s brick structures and modern eco-friendly office spaces. Recent productions include ITV's "Inspector Banks", the film "Say Your Prayers" (2020) and Channel 4's "Brad Boyz".

Located close to the university & city centre, Beehive is an ideal unit base when filming in the district, with 1.5 acres (0.62 hectares) of level & secure land. The site is not overlooked by surrounding streets, and has access for the largest articulated vehicles. With flexible hire on a daily basis, the space can also be used for backlot construction & filming. Recent shoots include "The Duke" (2020), Emmerdale, & Netflix drama "The English Game". It is managed by the Faculty of Engineering & Informatics for the University.
