Dr Patel is a multi-award winning pharmacist and academic whose work has taken him from being a research pioneer in health inequalities to life-changing work preventing Type 2 diabetes in South Asians. 
He has helped create new health guidelines to improve outcomes for disadvantaged people across the UK and his work has helped lower the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death in India. 
During the pandemic, he was a national lead for the Principle and Panoramic trials run by Oxford University, both of which sought to pioneer repurposed and new drug treatments in the community to prevent hospitalisation.
His early work as an advisor to the British Heart Foundation led to developing a national educational tool kit, the Healthy Hearts Tool Kit. 
He was born in Bradford and earned his degree at the University of Bradford. He is the University’s first Global Ambassador and the first international fellow of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association.
