University is supporting Bradford is #LIT festival

A futuristic dance show performed on the back of a 40-foot trailer will form part of the finale of this year’s Bradford is #LiT festival.

Future Cargo is a sci-fi dance show performed in a 40-foot haulage truck. Audiences experience the strange and unstoppable process of Future Cargo through binaural headphones.

The 45-minute show - to be performed on November 5 and 6 at 6pm and 8.30pm - is brought to you in partnership with University of Bradford’s Theatre in the Mill as part of Bradford is #Lit, a district-wide festival of light by Bradford Council, Bradford 2025 and Bradford BID. The show is free, and tickets can be booked in advance via the Theatre in the Mill website.

Richard Warburton, Artistic Director at Theatre in the Mill, said: "Bringing Future Cargo to Bradford is a massive statement of intent that this city is commencing its run into our own exciting future by hosting some of the most thrilling work out there. We literally jumped at the opportunity to help bring this show to a Bradford audience. A sci-fi dance show performed in a 40-foot haulage truck that looks stunning. Who wouldn't want to get involved."

Bradford is #LiT promises to transform the city using art and light to celebrate Bradford’s rich cultural heritage and unique architecture, whilst inspiring joy and wonder. The festival will see nine bespoke commissions take over the streets of Bradford, alongside two nationally recognised commissions that will visit Yorkshire for the first time. Bradford is #LiT is a district-wide festival of light, which will culminate on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 November 2021 in Bradford city centre.

Working with local and national artists, the festival will bring Bradford to life with an outstanding programme of unique light installations and provide a fun, alternative family offering this Bonfire Night weekend.

Richard Shaw, Bid Director at Bradford 2025, said: “This is a great opportunity to see the work of incredible Bradford-based artists, alongside some of the most imaginative light artists from across the UK and abroad, as they light up the district with their wonderful new creations. The programme will connect audiences across Bradford, from the city centre to Haworth, Bingley and Keighley, and demonstrate the wealth of culture and talent we have to offer, whilst highlighting our world-class architecture and community spaces, as we continue to promote our bid for City of Culture 2025.”

Future Cargo is the latest outdoor work by Frauke Requardt & David Rosenberg, created with longstanding collaborators, Hannah Clark (set and costume), Ben & Max Ringham (music and sound) and Malcolm Rippeth (lighting design).
