Bradford alumnus Abdul Hamid Miah appointed as MD of Islamic Bank of Bangladesh

Abdul Hamid Miah has been appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of Islamic Bank of Bangladesh Limited, the bank said in a statement released yesterday.

Bangladesh Bank approved his appointment following his nomination by the board of directors of the bank in a meeting held at a hotel in the capital, Dhaka, on Thursday.

Abdul Hamid Miah had previously served as Managing Director of Union Bank, Rupali Bank and Shilpa Bank (now Bangladesh Development Bank). He started his career as a Research Officer at Nutrition and Food Science Institute, University of Dhaka in 1976.

Later, he worked at Bangladesh Bank, Bangla-desh Tea Board, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Sonali Bank and Agrani Bank in different capacities.

He obtained a masters degree in economics from Rajshahi University and an MSc degree in National Development and Project Planning from the University of Bradford in 1987.
