50th Anniversary Alumni Event Singapore

Published:

The University's 50th celebrations continued with a special networking event for alumni in Singapore held at the UK Ambassador's residence, Eden Hall, on Friday 18 November.

The Deputy High Commissioner and Political Counsellor, British High Commission Singapore, Alexandra McKenzie, welcomed several University officials including Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research & Knowledge Transfer, Professor Robert Parkin, and over 40 Bradford alumni to the event.

Guest speaker, Professor Hooi Den Huan, Director of the Nanyang Technopreneurship Center at the Nanyang Technological University, who graduated from Bradford with a BSc in Business Studies in 1977, gave a passionate and inspirational talk highlighting the influence Bradford has had on his career stating “the University has touched my heart in so many ways”.

Professor Robert Parkin touched on the rich history and highlights of the University’s 50 years and shared the exciting future plans for Bradford as one of the world’s leading technology universities. Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, provided an overview of some of the significant technology and innovation developments at the University and Alumni Manager, Jonaid Khan, highlighted ways alumni can continue to engage with the University and get involved in different ways.

Alumni that attended the evening represented a wide range of Bradford graduates from different programmes and cohorts spanning almost 40 years; from as far back to the 1970s to as recent as 2015. There was also a mix comprising graduates that had completed their studies in Bradford, those that studied at the University’s partner institutions such as the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), and alumni that had completed their Bradford studies elsewhere such as at the University’s Dubai Campus or by Distance Learning.

The evening began and ended with celebratory drinks and canapés amid plenty of networking and discussion and a group photo was taken on the steps in the foyer of the splendid Eden Hall residence.

The event followed a number of 50th anniversary alumni celebrations in 2016 held overseas in locations including, Abuja, Accra, Addis Ababa, Beijing, Beirut, Brunei, Doha, Dubai, Gaborone, Lagos, and Muscat.
