University of Bradford Midwifery Society win Royal College of Midwives award

Published:

The UoB Midwifery Society was extremely proud to attend the Royal College of Midwives annual awards ceremony, as nominees for the Student Midwife of the Year award. The award recognises students who have made an exceptional contribution to the student community.

The judging panel felt that as all the nominees for the award were so strong, the award should be split equally, and the society received a cheque for £500 to enable them to continue and expand their work.

When the society formed in September 2014 their goal was to support and unite midwifery students and professionals, and create a learning hub with brave discussion and ideas. At the centre of this, and part of their award recognition, was their desire to provide high quality key learning opportunities to students, and make events inclusive for all.

The award also recognised their commitment to supporting each other, and they plan to celebrate their success with a lunch embracing all cohorts.

Student Midwife Kate Mortimer commented "We are so grateful to the RCM for their recognition, and for the support shown by the School of Midwifery in the Faculty of Health Studies in attending the awards. Being a part of the ceremony and surrounded by so many inspiring individuals and teams, who have made such a significant difference to the care of women, babies and their families, was a truly special moment for us all, and a part of our UoB journey that we will always treasure."
