The University of Bradford and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust have partnered to establish an off-site nursing school and degree programme at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

The school aims to boost nursing recruitment for the Trust and widen participation in the local area by offering our existing pre-registration BSc (Hons) Nursing programme in Children's Nursing.

Clinical practice experience makes up 50% of this three-year programme.

You will also gain experience on placement across the West Yorkshire region. There may also be an opportunity for you to practice abroad.

This is a practical, patient-centred course with equal amounts of theory and clinical practice. This enables you to experience different aspects of healthcare.

You will be supported in your learning by experienced children’s nursing practitioners. They will help you gain nursing skills in both hospital and community settings.

International Baccalaureate Requirements

112 UCAS tariff points, to include at least 80 points from 2 HL subjects. Plus HL 3 or SL 4 in Maths, English Language and Literature A or English B.

Plus minimum of

GCSEs with grade C or grade 4, to include English Language or English Literature and Mathematics.

Level 2 equivalents are accepted in place of GCSE English Language and Mathematics.

Additional entry requirements

NVQ Level 3

We accept NVQ Level 3 in any subject.

You must currently be working in a health environment as a healthcare assistant, support worker or carer with 2 years’ work experience.

Applicants with criminal convictions

Once you accept your offer, you will be asked to declare any criminal convictions you hold (including spent convictions). Having a criminal conviction does not mean that you cannot enrol on the course, you will need to go through a criminal convictions panel process.

English language requirements

Minimum of IELTS 7.0 or equivalent (no sub-test lower than 7.0).

Occupational Health (OH) check

All places are offered subject to satisfactory occupational health screening. This will involve completing an online occupational health questionnaire and attendance, if required, at a medical appointment.

Occupational health screening and assessment will consider your health and wellbeing and your fitness to study and practice. Progress on the course is dependent on your continued fitness.

This screening process complies with Public Health England requirements for protection of the public and students and staff working in health and social care.

All offers of places are made subject to satisfactory health clearance and an agreement to undergo appropriate blood tests and immunisations.

The University is obliged to make reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities to enable you to fulfil the required competencies of the programme. If you are concerned about health issues, we advise you to contact us before applying.

Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

All places are also offered subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (previously known as CRB check) disclosure.

This is because you may be required to work with children or vulnerable adults on your clinical placement, and will need to demonstrate that you can safely work with these groups upon NMC registration.
