Overview
This is a core module of the MSc / PG Dip / PG Cert Leadership in Health and Social Care, but can be studied as a standalone module.
The aims of the module are to explore a range of theory alongside practical approaches to leadership in health and social care organisations. It aims to help you gain insight into your own leadership skills and abilities and strengthen areas for development.
Entry requirements

The decision to offer a place is based on our assessment of a candidate’s potential to benefit from their studies and of their ability to succeed on this particular programme. Whilst you will normally hold a first degree or professional qualification we will consider your application if you do not possess such a qualification but have appropriate health and social care work experience.

Recognised English qualification, for example, GCSE English grade A-C.
English language requirements
IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each sub-test.

Content:
Development of leadership theory; role of the leader; leadership and management styles; interprofessional and systems leadership; motivation theories; power, influence and conflict; ethical leadership; contemporary debates in leadership and management; personal leadership development opportunities.

Career prospects
This module is targeted at aspiring international healthcare professionals who wish to apply for leadership and management positions within health and social care, as well as those already working as allied health professionals, clinical scientists, nurses or doctors.
The module is also suitable for those working in a variety of non-clinical roles, for example, commissioners, quality improvement managers, clinical auditors, risk management, team leaders, social workers, patient advocates, or in the voluntary sector.
