Guidance for job applicants
Know the rules before you apply
Some types of work are restricted, including self-employment, freelance work, professional sport, entertainment roles and business activity. These restrictions are clearly communicated through our guidance, appointments and resources.
Be aware of scam jobs
Young people are amongst the most defrauded jobseekers in Britain, so it pays to take precautions when looking for a job.
Please be particularly cautious of social media adverts. If a job looks too good to be true, it probably is. Before applying for any of these, make sure that you talk to us first. NEVER pay to get a job.
The Jobs Aware website offers advice and information to help protect job seekers from falling prey to scam jobs.
Using AI
AI is becoming an increasingly important part of higher education and the workplace. Careers & Employability Services encourage students to develop confidence in using AI responsibly, ethically and critically as part of their career development. AI can support career exploration, applications and interview preparation, but it works best alongside human guidance, critical evaluation and authentic reflection. Our aim is not simply to help students use AI, but to help them become thoughtful, informed and effective users of AI in their future careers.
