Biography
Brian Barry, now Emeritus Professor, wasProfessor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Head of the Drug Delivery Group ofThe School of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacy and Dean of Life Sciences, Universityof Bradford, UK.His education includes a BSc (Pharmacy) and aDSc (University of Manchester) together with a PhD from the Faculty of Medicineof the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Societyof Great Britain, and formally a Chartered Chemist, a Fellow of theRoyal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the American Association ofPharmaceutical Scientists and is a recipient of a British PharmaceuticalConference Science Award.
His previous experience includes employment as acommunity pharmacist and in the pharmaceutical industry and as an academic atLondon, Portsmouth and Bradford Universities.
His main research interests are in colloidscience and drug delivery systems, especially via the topical and transdermalroutes, with over 400 research publications. He has a wide and varied experience of collaborating with some fortyfirms in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. Hehas served as a member of the Chemistry, Pharmacy and Standards Sub-Committeeof the Committee on Safety of Medicines and advised the Medicines ControlAgency of the UK and the Food and Drug Administration of the USA on topical andtransdermal delivery of drugs.
Among others, he has refereed for the Scienceand Engineering Research Council, Medical Research Council, BBSRC, WellcomeFoundation, NATO, and South African, Israeli and Spanish Governments.
