Juliet Adoch

Academic Background: Graduate Diploma in Global Leadership from Royal Road University, BC, Canada and a Bachelor Degree in Public Administration from Gulu University, Uganda.

Areas of Interest: Transitional Justice, Governance, Peacebuilding, Migration, Gender, Young People Engagement and Documentation of experiences of violence and past atrocities.

Juliet has over 8 years in working with conflict-affected communities. In 2013 she joined the Refugee Law Project (RLP), School of Law, Makerere University having previously worked with a myriad of organisations in Northern Uganda. At RLP, she grounded her experience working with communities within Uganda affected by the Lord Resistant Army rebels in Northern and Eastern Uganda, as well as victims affected by conflicts in other parts of the country, going as far back as 1979. She has engaged with these communities in the areas of rehabilitation both physical and psychosocial; documentation and research of past atrocities; memorialisation initiatives; strengthening community-level reconciliation initiatives; and facilitating regional and national platforms for civil society to influence policy and practice.

In 2017 Juliet further explored the refugee-host dynamic working with refugees being hosted in Uganda from Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi as well as various stakeholders working with these communities in areas of Access to Justice, Mental Health and Gender. She has also worked with young people both in and out of school on engaging creatively in transitional justice and governace issues. Working in conflict and post-conflict settings has greatly informed her knowledge of existing realities that these communities encounter on a daily basis.

Juliet possesses skills in research, project management, communication, public speaking, training / capacity building and mentorship. She believes in a diverse approach to learning and impacting on society and is passionate about working with persons affected by conflict.
