Disability Service
Welcome to the Disability Service
Our friendly and welcoming team provide information, advice and guidance about the support available for disabled students here at the University of Bradford.
What is a disability?
The word ‘disability’ can mean different things to different people. By the term ‘disabled students’, we mean any student with:
- Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia or dyscalculia
- Mental health conditions
- Autism or ADHD
- A long-term health condition
- A physical or sensory impairment
You may not consider yourself to be disabled, but if you have a physical or mental condition that impacts you, the University may have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to support you.
Supporting your studies
Universities have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments to ensure all students, including those with disabilities, have equal access to education.
This helps create an inclusive environment where everyone can stay on track, thrive and succeed in their academic journey.
As a disabled student, you may be eligible for adjustments to help with your studies. These accommodations can include changes to teaching and learning practices, assessment and exam support.
We assess students' needs on a case-by-case basis. We will work with you to identify how we can best support you.
How to access our service
Prospective students
If you are thinking of coming or have recently applied to the University of Bradford, don’t wait until you have arrived to make contact with us. We can arrange for you to talk to a member of our team about what support is on offer here at the University. To contact us please complete the request support form*.
Current students
If you identify as being disabled, or with any of the conditions we've listed, please get in touch to discuss how we can support you with your studies.
If you have not already registered with our service, please complete the request support form*. Our team will then be in touch to discuss how we can help you to access appropriate support. You can find out more on our SharePoint site (university login required).
*Please note, you will need to complete this form separately for counselling and mental health and/or the Student Life team.
Why it's important to contact us early
If you're thinking about coming to Bradford, it's never too early to contact us.
We'd be happy to arrange a meeting with you to discuss the ways that we can support you before you arrive and while you're studying here.
We encourage all prospective and current students to get in touch with us to arrange an appointment. We can offer advice and guidance on:
- the support available to you while studying with us
- the application process for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)*
Please get in touch at disabilities@bradford.ac.uk or see us at an Open Day or Experience Day.
*Please be aware not all students are eligible for DSA. This is dependent on eligibility criteria.

After securing my place at Bradford, I attended a Get Set Day. It was reassuring to meet the support team before I started my course.

Get Set Day
Our annual Get Set Day is the perfect event to help you transition to university.
What is it?
It’s our way to give new and prospective disabled students more information about our services and how to access them.
We run it just before the start of the academic term, and it's the perfect opportunity to meet and talk to us about your experiences and concerns. We'll be there to offer you some guidance and reassurance.
We'll also provide information about Bradford's other support services, the library and the student union.
How do I sign up?
We reach out to all students who have shared with us that they have a disability.
Once you have accepted an offer to study here at Bradford, share that you have a disability when you complete the pre-enrolment form. We’ll then send you a sign-up link for Get Set Day.
This year's event will take place on Thursday 11 September 2025.
