How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some headings aren’t in order or it’s not always clear what text is intended to be a heading
  • Forms inputs don’t always have labels
  • Some links aren’t clear on their intended functionality within the page
  • Some images don’t have appropriate alternative text descriptions

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The University of Bradford is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Images

Some images do not have appropriate alt text, making the images difficult to comprehend for people using a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We aim to add alternative descriptions to images on pages for this website by 2024.

Headings

Some pages have elements that look like headings but are not marked up as headings, so people using a screen reader will not be able to identify these elements as headings. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships). Additionally, some pages do not have headings in the correct order or do not start with a level 1 heading, so people using a screen reader cannot comprehend the structure of content on the page. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.2 (meaningful sequence).

We aim to correct formatting of headings on pages for this website, while also working with the system vendor to improve this aspect of conformance by 6 September 2024.

Hyperlinks or buttons

Some pages have link elements behaving as buttons (clicking the link element does not navigate the user, but instead toggles the visibility of another element). This may cause confusion for people using a screen reader as this is unexpected behaviour. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships).

We are working with our supplier to address this issue by December 2024.

Some pages have link elements toggling the visibility of other elements. The relationship of these elements is not set programmatically, making it difficult for people using a screen reader to comprehend this relationship. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role, value).

We are working with our supplier to address this issue by December 2024.

Form inputs and labels

Some pages have input elements without labels which makes it difficult for people using a screen reader to identify the purpose of the input elements. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.2 (labels or instructions).

We are working with our supplier to address this issue by December 2024.

Disproportionate burden

We are not making any disproportionate burden claims for this website.
