Biography
I am an Associate Professor of Social Work (Senior Lecturer), Senior Fellow of HE Advance SFHEA. I am care experienced (in both foster and residential care as a child). I joined the University of Bradford in January 2021. My previous position was at Bradford College as a social work lecturer (since April 2012) and Head of School for Social Care and Community Practice (since September 2019). Prior to this I was a social work lecturer at the University of Plymouth. I am a qualified and registered social worker, and member of BASW. My practice experience was largely working alongside young people. I worked at Barnardos as a social worker and then Childrens Service Manager. Before this I was at the City of York Council working alongside Adults with Learning Disabilities.
My research, academic and practice interests are diverse, and include the following:
- care-experienced social workers / students;
- the experiences of care leavers (notions of 'home', class, belonging and inclusion);
- the efficacy and foundations of the pro-feminist movement: The White Ribbon Campaign;
- the synergy between social work and environmentalism;
- leadership and management in social work;
- student engagement and student-shaped curricula (social pedagogy, human rights, equalities and inclusion).
