Dr. Izram Chaudry

Biography

Dr Izram Chaudry is a Lecturer and PGR Lead in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Bradford. Prior, Izram worked as a Research Associate at the University of Lincoln (2022-23) and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Leeds (2020-22). He is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). 

Izram has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Leeds (2019-22). This PhD was funded by the Leeds Doctoral Scholarship. Izram also has an MA in Social Research (Distinction) from the University of Leeds and a BA (Hons) in Physical Education (First) from Leeds Beckett University. 

Izram is author of BrAsian Family Practices and Reflexivity: Beyond the Boxing Ropes (Routledge, 2024). He is also co-editor of Social Class, Physical Education and Community Sport (Hobson, Whigham and Chaudry, Routledge, Forthcoming).

Izram has teaching and research interests/ expertise in Criminology and Criminal Behaviour, Racism and Ethnicity Studies, Islamophobia, Critical Muslim Studies, Relational Sociology (Education, Family, Community, Sport) as well as Qualitative Methodology.

Izram is module leader for Dissertation (SAC6015-D) and Decolonising Social Life (SAC4022-B). He also teaches across a range of other modules including Social Inequalities: Advanced Themes in Sociology (SAC5023-B), Educational Transitions (SAC6023-B), The Sociological Imagination (SAC3002-B) and Social Research Methods in Context: City, Spaces, People (SAC5022-B).  

Izram is also an associate supervisor for two PhD students:

·       Gabby Keating (Provisional Title: Student Transition During Crisis and the Theoretical Framework of ‘Space’).

·       Omar Ali (Provisional Title: Race, Unemployment and Social Mobility - Risks, Challenges and Opportunities for Young Pakistani Muslim Men from Keighley).

Izram welcomes PhD enquiries/ proposals, that align with his research interests from qualified and motivated applicants who are committed to social justice and transformation.
