Biography
Dr Izram Chaudry is a Lecturer in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Bradford. Prior, Izram worked as a Research Associate at the University of Lincoln (2022-23) and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Leeds (2020-22). He is Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Izram has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Leeds (2019-22). This PhD was funded by the Leeds Doctoral Scholarship. The thesis was entitled: 'Reflexive BrAsian Family Practices: Boxers' Understanding of Parental Influence'. Izram also has an MA in Social Research (Distinction) from the University of Leeds and a BA (Hons) in Physical Education (First) from Leeds Beckett University.
Based on his PhD thesis, Izram is currently writing a research monograph provisionally entitled: 'Beyond the Boxing Ropes: BrAsian Family Practices and Reflexivity'. This is due to be submitted for publication in 2024 to feature in the 'Advances in Sociology' book series by Routledge.
Izram has teaching and research interests/ expertise in racism and ethnicity studies, Islamophobia, Critical Muslim Studies, relational sociology (education, family, community, sport) and qualitative methodology.
He is currently editing a special issue, for the journal ReOrient, on 'Everyday Islamophobia'. This explicates how Islamophobia is ubiquitous and may operate subtly and implicitly under the camouflage of racial microaggressions.
Izram is co-supervising a PhD, alongside Dr Yunis Alam and Dr Paul Sullivan, that is entitled: Race, Unemployment and Social Mobility - Risks, Challenges and Opportunities for Young Pakistani Muslim Men from Keighley (Omar Ali).
