Anti-racism advocates

The Anti-racism advocates initiative is part of the Brad-iCOUNT Fund programme. The Brad-iCOUNT Fund is a component of the Brad-iCOUNT Programme designed to provide guidance and financial support on a yearly basis for innovative EDI ideas.

Advocates duties

We have successfully employed and engaged ten students to act as anti-racism advocates. Their duties include:

  • Helping to amplify the voices of minoritised students,
  • Engaging other students in conversation about racism and ways to handle incidence racial harassment and discrimination and how to become an active bystander,
  • Taking part in our schools’ integration project by visiting schools and sensitising school children about racism and ways to avoid it,
  • Raising awareness of the impact of racism in all its forms (including micro aggressions),
  • Signposting students to appropriate mechanisms to report cases of racist,
  • Working with the Anti-Racism CfID to facilitate the creation of safe spaces for discussions about difference and to enhance constructive conversations about race, racism, and Whiteness.

Advocate training

To enable advocates to perform their duties, they have to undergo a two-day training programme titled: Responding to Experiences of Racism.

The training is delivered by Hári Sewell of HS Consulting. Hári is Founding Director of HS Consultancy, a writer and speaker in his specialist area of social justice, equalities and ethnicity, race and culture in mental health.
