Membership Terms and Conditions
Please keep this page for your records. This page explains the different types of memberships and the terms and conditions. These terms and conditions were published on 18 September 2025. You can also download a PDF copy.
All members and non-members agree to adhere to the Health Commitment Statement (this can be found displayed in the reception area).
Membership options
We have different memberships. To purchase a reduced-price membership, valid ID must be shown that proves your status. If you can't show ID, you will be charged the standard public rate.
- Adult Membership: For everyone.
- Swim-Only Membership: Lets you use the swimming pool only.
- Staff Membership: Only for staff members of the University of Bradford.
- Graduate Membership: Only for graduates of the University of Bradford.
- Blue-light/Corporate Membership: Only for people who have a blue-light card.
- Senior Membership: Only for people who are 60 years old or older.
- Junior Membership: Only for people who are 15 years old and under. Fitness Classes are not included.
- BEEP Membership: Must be referred by a doctor to get this membership.
- Student Membership: Only for students at the University of Bradford.
- Visiting Student Membership: For students aged 16 or older who study at:
- A UK university or college that is not the University of Bradford.
- A university or college outside the UK.
What your membership includes
- The gym
- The swimming pool (during general and lane swimming times)
- Fitness classes (including VR classes) (excludes Junior membership)
- Bookings for badminton, squash, and tennis courts
- Entry to the climbing wall
What your membership does not include
- Bookings for halls
- Bookings for sports pitches
- Taster sessions, lessons, or courses run by Unique Fitness
- Access to training sessions for student sports clubs
Important notes about access
- Access to some facilities might be limited due to student sports club training, lessons, or courses.
- Membership fees already take into account holidays, closures, and occasional class cancellations.
- You cannot give your membership or any of its benefits to another person.
- Junior Memberships have the following restrictions:
- Gym: 12–15-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years old and above and
both must complete a junior induction. Children aged 11 years are unable to use the gym. - Swimming pool: under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, the adult and child must swim
together in the pool. The adult to child ratio is 1 adult to 2 children only. - Fitness Classes are not included
- Gym: 12–15-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years old and above and
Paying for your membership
Direct Debit (Sign up at reception only)
- Payments will be taken around the 28th of each month. If the 28th is on a weekend or bank holiday, payment will be taken on the next working day.
- When you sign up, you will need to make an initial payment to cover your membership until the first direct debit payment.
- Your direct debit payments will continue until you inform both your bank and Unique Fitness that you want to cancel.
- If a direct debit payment fails, your membership will be cancelled automatically.
- To cancel your membership, you must inform Unique Fitness in writing. If you have a membership card, please return it.
- You are responsible for cancelling the direct debit with your bank. Unique Fitness will not refund
payments if you forget to cancel your direct debit.
Annual Payment (Available online or at reception)
- You need to pay the full amount when you join.
- To cancel, you must inform Unique Fitness in writing.
Getting a refund
- If you have a medical reason: If you provide a doctor's note, you can get a full refund for the time left on your membership, minus a £10 administration fee.
- For other reasons: You can get a maximum of 50% of the remaining value of your membership back, minus a £10 administration fee.
Pausing your membership
- If you are unwell and cannot use your membership, you can ask to pause it for up to 6 months. You need to send us a doctor's note as proof. Your membership will be paused from the date we receive your request and the medical evidence.
- You cannot pause your membership for travel, holidays, religious celebrations, or any other nonmedical reasons.
General rules
- Unique Fitness can increase the prices of monthly and annual memberships, as well as casual fees. If we increase monthly fees, we will give you at least 15 working days' notice in writing.
- Please returned membership cards to: Unique Fitness, University of Bradford, BD7 1DP.
- Parking is available on site, but it can be difficult to find a space during these times:
- Monday to Friday: 6:30 am to 9:00 am, and 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm
- Saturday and Sunday: All day
- Please check the University of Bradford website for the rules about parking. Unique Fitness is not responsible for any loss, damage, or parking fines. Parking is your responsibility.
- You must show your Unique Fitness membership card, staff card, or student card at reception every time you visit. If you don't, you might not be allowed in or you might have to pay the normal entry fee.
- If you are eligible for a discount, you must inform a member of staff at reception when you join or renew your membership. You will need to show proof of your student ID and that you are still studying for the entire time of your membership.
- Unique Fitness will try to let you know if activities are changed or cancelled, but we might have to do
this without giving you notice. - Unique Fitness is not responsible if any of the services or equipment are not available for any reason.
- If anything affects your ability to exercise safely, you must inform Unique Fitness. We recommend that you talk to your doctor before starting a new fitness programme or increasing how active you are.
- If there is a limit on how many people can join a session, entry will be on a first-come, first-served
basis. - Unique Fitness is not responsible for any loss or damage to your personal belongings or any injury to you while you are on University of Bradford property, unless the law says we cannot exclude this responsibility.
- Unique Fitness expects all customers and staff to be treated with respect. We will not accept violent, abusive, or intimidating behaviour. Anyone who behaves unacceptably will be asked to leave and may be taken to court. CCTV cameras are in use.
- Customers must leave the building no later than 15 minutes after closing time.
- Unique Fitness may send you information and offers (by email and text message) about events, services, and offers from Unique Fitness and the University of Bradford.
- If you lose your membership card or it is stolen, you will have to pay £10 for a new one.
- Only the person named on the membership card can use the membership. If someone else uses your card, your membership may be stopped or cancelled without a refund.
- If you don't check in at reception, don't attend a class or activity you booked, or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice (and you don't have a medical reason), you will be charged extra fees.
- Unique Fitness can update these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be posted on our website: www.bradford.ac.uk/unique. Please check the website for the latest information.
Bookings
- If you book any service with Unique Fitness, you must check in at reception no more than 10 minutes before your booking time. If you don't check in, don't attend, or cancel a booking with less than 24 hours' notice, you will be charged extra fees.
- It is your responsibility to cancel or change any session you have booked.
- Unique Fitness may change the programme at any time without notice if needed for operational reasons.
Swimming Lesson Terms and Conditions
Please keep this document for your records. This page explains the terms and conditions of swimming lessons. These allow lessons to be delivered as expected, ensuring the safety of all visitors. These terms and conditions were published on 25 December 2025. You can also download a PDF copy.
All lesson participants are to adhere to the Health Commitment Statement (this can be found displayed in the reception area).
Participants and Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
Participants:
- Arrive on time and present on the poolside at the scheduled lesson time. Late pupils may be refused entry.
- Use the bathroom and blow your nose prior to the start of the lesson.
- Use the pre-wash showers before the lesson.
- Store clothes and personal belongings in a locker (do not leave clothing in cubicles or on poolside – these will be removed).
- Adhere to the pool rules.
- Wait until greeted by the teacher, who will take a register, before entering the water.
- Always pay attention to the teacher.
- Leave the pool promptly at the end of the lesson.
Parents/Guardian:
- You must always remain in the building and be easily contactable.
- Be available to take your child to the toilet if required.
- Drop your child off with the teacher at the start of the lesson and collect your child from the changing room poolside entrance/exit at the end of the lesson.
- NO parents or guardians are permitted on the poolside, viewing must be from the pool viewing window. Under no circumstance should a parent/guardian be stood in the pre-wash shower area. This causes an obstruction and could reduce response time during emergency situations.
- If your child feels ill or has suffered sickness/diarrhoea in the past 48 hours, please do not bring your child to their lesson that week.
- Showers must not be ‘reserved’ for lesson participants.
- Due to time restrictions and health and safety practices teachers cannot have conversations on poolside teachers must not be distracted at any time, if you wish to speak with a teacher please email swimming-lessons@bradford.ac.uk and your query will be dealt with.
Direct Debit Payments
- Direct debit payments will be taken on the 1st of every month or the nearest working day should this fall on a weekend/bank holiday.
- Direct debits will continue to run until cancelled by the payer at their bank. It is your responsibility to ensure payments can be taken on the specified date, and to inform us of any changes in bank/contact details.
- Your lesson place is guaranteed until cancellation of payment. Unique Fitness cannot be held responsible for lost lesson places due to accidental direct debit cancellation or missed payments.
- Following direct debit cancellation or missed payment can join a waiting list for future lessons.
- The pricing structure takes into account statutory holidays, customary holidays, bank holidays, facility closures and occasional lesson cancellations.
- Monthly subscriptions may be increased at the discretion of Unique Fitness giving members at least 15 working days written notice of any changes in monthly fees.
Refunds and Cancellations
- There is a one-month notice period, cancellations must be sent in writing to swimming-lessons@bradford.ac.uk. The payer is responsible for cancelling any future direct debit payments at the bank.
- Refunds for group swimming lessons with medical certification will be paid in whole to the remaining value, subject to a £10 admin fee.
- If a lesson is cancelled in full due to unforeseen circumstances a refund for the single lesson amount will be issued.
- If a lesson is cancelled part way through and 50% or more has taken place, no refund will be issued.
- Lessons missed by a participant, for any reason, will not be refunded or rearranged.
1-2-1 and 2-2-1 lessons cannot be cancelled or amended within a 24-hour period prior to the lesson. - If cancellation is made within the 24-hour period, no refund or credit will be issued for any reason.
- Memberships cannot be put on hold for any reason.
Photography
- Unique Fitness produces marketing literature, has a website and social media accounts. Unique Fitness may also use notice boards at public events; photographs will NEVER be used without permission from parent/guardian/participant.
Medical Consent
- In the event of an accident or emergency whilst myself/child is in Unique Fitness’ care, I consent to all emergency medical care or treatment necessary to be rendered to myself/child, to preserve my/their health and safety. This consent shall always remain in effect while myself/child is participating in class and under Unique Fitness’ supervision. I understand that every effort will be made to contact/locate me and that these efforts will not delay the arrangements or provision of medical care.
General rules
- Teachers where possible remain the same, however due to sickness/holiday there may be unforeseen lesson cover. All teachers are qualified to a level 2 and follow the same criteria.
- A female teacher is not guaranteed for a woman only lesson, we do try where possible to provide female teachers, but these maybe taught by a male.
- Parking is available on site, subject to availability, a Unique Fitness parking permit must be clearly displayed in the vehicle and customers are to use designated Unique Fitness parking bays only. Failure to follow the regulations may result in a fine.
- Unique Fitness will endeavour to give prior notice of any alteration/cancellation of lessons but reserve the right to do so without prior notice.
- Should any circumstance arise affecting the participants suitability to take part in lessons, it is the responsibility of the individual/carer to notify the teacher.
- Unique Fitness accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to the members personal effects, or personal injury to the member whilst on University of Bradford property. Except in so far as such loss, damage, or injury, by law, incapable of exclusion.
- CCTV is in operation throughout the building and on poolside – violent, abusive, or intimidating behaviour will not be tolerated, and members will be asked to leave and may be prosecuted.
- Unique Fitness may send information and offers via email, SMS and other communication channels.
- University of Bradford reserves the right to update membership terms and conditions.
