Noor

BSc (Hons) Clinical Sciences

Noor’s journey to Bradford was shaped by her love of science and a determination to pursue a future in medicine and healthcare. With her BSc (Hons) in Clinical Sciences, she is ready to build a career that combines medicine, research and MedTech.

This is her story.

Opening doors

"My journey into higher education wasn’t straightforward."

"I had to take two gap years after A levels due to personal circumstances. During that time, I worked and did tutoring, but I always knew I wanted to go to university.

"I applied through Clearing and found the process smooth. It made such a difference to speak directly with the subject lead about the Clinical Sciences course.

"Having that conversation gave me real insight into what the degree involved, what kind of support was available, and how the course could help me reach my end goal of studying medicine.

"It felt reassuring to know I was speaking with someone who actually taught the course, and it confirmed that Bradford was the right choice for me."

Because of my grades, I began with a Foundation Year. I'm so glad I did – it was the head start I needed.

A great beginning

"Starting with a Foundation Year gave me the chance to build my confidence, adjust to university life, and learn the core subjects."

"By the time I started the full degree I already felt prepared.

"Friends who went straight into first year found it harder to transition, but I had that stepping stone to lean on."

Getting stuck in to science

"I’ve always loved science, especially biology."

"At Bradford I was able to dive deep into it.

"Anatomy and genomics were two of my favourite modules.

"I even got to use bioinformatics software and the anatomy table, which really brought the subject to life."

Support in my tough times

"In my second year, I suffered a brain injury that affected my mental health and studies."

"The support I received from staff was incredible.

"I honestly don’t think I would have made it through without them."

The Digital Health module

"One of the biggest highlights for me on the course was the Digital Health module."

"It was very inspiring, especially the way it combined medicine and technology to show how healthcare is evolving.

"The tutor was incredibly motivating, encouraging us to see ourselves as part of that change.

"As part of the module, we came up with our own ideas and pitched them in a Dragons’ Den-style hackathon, which really pushed me out of my comfort zone.

"That experience sparked my passion for MedTech.

"I joined the National MedTech Foundation, where I’ve been able to connect with doctors, researchers, and other students who are working at the cutting edge of healthcare.

"Being part of that network has shown me just how many opportunities there are to make a difference in this field."

A proud moment

"For my final-year research project, I decided to explore the intersection of medicine and technology."

"I looked at how artificial intelligence could be used to diagnose kidney transplant rejection. It was an ambitious topic, especially as I had no background in computing.

"It was overwhelming, but the support I received from my supervisor was fantastic. They gave me the guidance I needed to approach the project with confidence. Through the process, I developed new skills in computer science. It was a huge challenge, but also incredibly rewarding.

"To my complete surprise, I was awarded the best research project at graduation. It was definitely one of my proudest moments at Bradford."

Opportunities beyond the classroom

"I got involved in the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) scheme as a PAL leader."

"It was rewarding to support new students as they adjusted to university life, answer their questions, and help them feel more confident both academically and socially.

"In my final year, I also took part in the ASEP programme, which turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my time at Bradford. The programme helped us develop entrepreneurial skills by working on business ideas, and it even gave me the chance to spend two weeks in China.

"Whilst there, I pitched ideas to real panels, explored a completely new culture, and met students from all over the world, including some I’d met when they visited the UK."

My time at Bradford made studying medicine possible.

A foundation for medicine

"I recently graduated and I’m about to begin studying medicine, which has been my ambition since I did my A levels."

"Becoming a doctor is my ultimate goal, but I know that it’s my time at Bradford that has made this possible.

"The BSc (Hons) Clinical Sciences degree gave me the academic foundation I needed, and the practical skills, research experience, and confidence to take the next step into medical school.

"I’m keeping an open mind about which speciality I’ll eventually pursue, because I know from experience that medicine often takes you in unexpected directions.

"What I do know is that I want to stay closely involved in research and MedTech.

"The modules and projects I worked on at Bradford showed me how much potential there is when it comes to integrating technology into medicine, and I want to be part of shaping that future."

My advice to future students

"A Foundation Year is not a step back. It’s a step forward."

"Use the support and resources available at Bradford, because they really can transform your journey.

"Science isn’t easy, but with the right tools you can achieve more than you think."
