Psychology - Shepherd Illusion

10:15-10:45 & 14:15-14:45

Did you know that some autistic people have extraordinary talents in areas such as art, music, and mathematics? Why is that? We don’t know the full story, but we do have some clues that could help to explain extraordinary artistic ability. Being a good artist depends on various things including being able to see the world as it really is. Our internationally recognised research demonstrates that many autistic people actually see the world more accurately than non-autistic people and this is apparent in their ability not to be fooled by visual illusions. In the demonstration, I will show you a surprisingly powerful visual illusion and I will present evidence showing that autistic people are not easily seduced by the illusion.
