Scales of justice.

This is Law

Start your legal career

Our specialist LLBs allow you to study for a qualifying law degree. They give you the legal tools needed to practice law and provide exemption from the academic stage of training for those who wish to qualify as solicitors or barristers.

Our Legal Advice Clinic allows you, in your final year, to provide real legal advice to members of the public and experience the justice system in operation. Mooting sessions and mock courtroom situations allow you to develop your skills and confidence.

You can study your degree over three years, or over four years with a sandwich professional placement year in industry, and tailor your studies to focus on emerging interests / career aspirations.

Our facilities

The Lady Hale Moot Court opened in 2020 and provides a mock Court for students to practice their mooting skills. The school utilises this facility to undertake simulated court proceedings and external mooting competitions.

New mock court

The University has recently opened a state-of-the-art mock court.

The facility, which is based within the law department on our main City Campus, was opened by renowned judge Lady Brenda Hale in January 2020.

It provides our students with the unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a courtroom and develop their professional legal skills in a realistic setting, meaning they will graduate ready to step into the world of work and with experience in a courtroom behind them.

The court is open to students from across the University, including those training to become social workers, psychologists, criminologists, health care professionals and forensic scientists.

Mock vacation scheme

We are proudly working in collaboration with Walker Morris LLP to offer a one-day Mock Vacation Scheme exclusively for Law students at the University.

The one-day scheme will allow you to gain valuable insight into what to expect during the recruitment process when applying for a training contract or qualifying work experience, as well as experiencing working life at a law firm.

While working at Walker Morris, you will practice completing an application form and written assessment, take part in group-based tasks and activities, learn about the different career options available, and network with current trainees at the firm.
