A fun chance to try out writing and performing poetry inspired by the theme of True Grit.
Whether you're new to performance poetry and spoken word, or fancy sharpening up your skills with some of the region's finest professionals, this will be a brilliant opportunity to create some work to perform - whether that's in your front room, at a spoken word night or on a video uploaded to the World Wide Web. There will be some inspiration and exercises to spark your writing, performance tips and exercises to help give you confidence in sharing your work and the chance to get feedback from fellow writers and performers. All in a nurturing and supportive environment.
A poetry cycle for the digital age, True Grit brings landscapes to life through spoken word performances. Filmed on location in Yorkshire it involves some of the region’s finest young performance poets and spoken word artists. The widely acclaimed Leeds Young Authors – stars of the inspirational film We Are Poets, and Kate Fox - former Glastonbury Festival and Radio 4 Saturday Live Poet in Residence, will perform alongside a raft of exciting voices, discovered at travelling workshops around Yorkshire, where organisers hope to stumble on inventive performances that speak to people in new ways.
