Have you ever made a monkey of yourself?
Drink With a Chimp will feature chimps, humans, biographical stories of addicts in recovery and a message of hope for anyone who has ever wanted to be 'better'.
This new performance tells the stories of people regaining control of their lives in their own words. The first thing to understand is that “Recovery from addiction isn't about giving up drugs - it is about something deeper than abstinence alone”.
This is a work in progress performance by Simon Brewis, Daniel Ingram-Brown and Lynsey Jones (Common Chorus) in collaboration with clients at Spacious Places Addicts Recovery Centre in Leeds.
'For the past year I have been working on and off at Spacious Places – a day treatment centre in Leeds for recovering alcoholics and drug addicts. Writer, Daniel Ingram-Brown, Director, Simon Brewis and I have listened to the stories of those in recovery and thought creatively about how their harrowing yet often hopeful ‘journeys’ could be brought to the stage.' Lynsey Jones from the Drink with a Chimp team talks to The Big Bookend festival about the process of making and developing the performance: Read more here
