The Company is primarily concerned with research and development in the polymeric materials. Polymerisation reaction engineering is a reasonable description of the Company's activities which involves polymer chemistry, scale-up of processes, reactive processing of polymers, polymer analysis and the testing of polymers at a macroscopic level.

Gluco Technology required help with assisting the current team with a range of on-going projects which include: (i) the development and testing of a new
biodegradable polymer which it is planned to produce commercially in the next 12 months (ii) the evaluation of a novel adhesive which is suitable for use in the
automotive field. Farhaan helped with researching polymers, testing, analysis and reporting results to key stakeholders.


Why did you apply for the Summer Experience Internship?

Applied to have some experience outside academia and to give substance to job applications


What did you enjoy about the Internship?

Enjoyed the fact that I was in a business environment and had weekly executive reports, meetings etc


What tips would you give to prospective students?

Tips are do something outside of the classroom and the sports area, something that is relevant to the working world


What support did you receive from Career Development Services?

Support was almost endless, wouldn't have heard about it if it wasn't for the outreach in the atrium, also at each stage they were committed to find a placement. Each interview I had was clearly explained and the team helped with locations and company info.


What actions are you taking to improve your employability whilst at university?

Joined STEM and did the summer placement. Also did archery as a hobby.


What actions are you taking to improve your employability whilst at university?

It is much easier to find entry level experience at university than after. Take advantage before you look back and wish you did. It will help you for a long time after as you will probably get to practice interview skills, as-well as dressing appropriately and having the right attitude and work ethic.


What advice would you give to your fellow students about finding placement and work experience opportunities?

It looks like a daunting task but it is more simple than you think. The careers service is with you the whole way. You will become much more rounded and professionally knowledgeable, you will also get paid
