Andrei Andreca

Matrix Technology Solutions Ltd is a global provider of technology solutions. Since 1993, Matrix's team of skilled engineers have developed a wide range of educational, industrial and hobbyist focused products simplifying subject matter including electronics, electricity, programming, robotics, mechatronics, technology and computer science.

The project involved developing a new version of a Flowcode graphical programming language which required an intern to amend existing and develop new components.

Why did you apply for the Summer Experience Internship?

I had no previous experience in electronics and found out about this opportunity through one of the Career Development Advisors. I did previously complete a manufacturing placement year but wanted to get some additional experience.

What did you enjoy about the Internship?

There was good support from my work colleagues and if I needed the help they were more than happy to assist. We had an update meeting every two weeks to go through my progress.

"Andrei’s contribution during the Summer Experience programme greatly exceeded expectations and his exemplary attitude and aptitude have earned him a part-time role at Matrix while continuing his studies."

What tips would you give to prospective students?

Be enthusiastic about the opportunity and open up to learning new things.

What support did you receive from Career Development Services?

Careers told me about the job and helped me with my application and gave me some valuable interview tips.

What actions are you taking to improve your employability whilst at university?

I’m still working at Matrix TSL on a part time basis, which is great experience.

What advice would you give to your fellow students about finding placement and work experience opportunities?

I would advise students to look on the jobs online website, go to the careers centre, look at Gradcracker and Rate My Placement for engineering opportunities and attend the careers fairs.

Any last words?

Overall I had a positive experience and gained the opportunity to work in a commercial environment. I would recommend it.
