Overview

The Certificate of International Foundation Studies is a pre-degree access foundation year programme for all subjects which helps you, as an international student, to develop:

  • advanced English language skills (both general and subject specific English)
  • higher level study skills
  • subject related knowledge

You will:

  • be taught by language and subject specialists
  • develop academic level English language skills
  • receive dedicated pastoral support in choosing your career path

This course is designed for students who do not have the necessary qualifications for registration directly onto a degree course. This additional programme of study enables you to communicate and study effectively at undergraduate level.

Unlike many foundation year courses, success completion of this programme will give you the opportunity to progress onto a wide range of undergraduate degrees across all subject areas of the University, from courses in health and nursing, computer science, media and engineering to social sciences, and business and law. The programme leaders will work with you so you fully understand the route you will take to complete your undergraduate degree.

Why Bradford?

This programme has been designed with input from our existing international students, and by academics who teach on the programmes you can progress to. Having access to such a diverse range of programmes to progress to gives you options and allows you to focus your degree on your chosen area.

A small dedicated programme team will provide guidance about making the right choice for your further study, as well as help you settle in the UK. This team will be with you every step of the way, and you can rely on them for academic and pastoral support.

Many of your lecturers are research active, and you will benefit from their expertise in a multitude of areas such as healthcare, medicines development, social sciences and business.

You will have access to The Effective Learning Service (ELS), a dedicated facility located at the Faculty of Management and Law. The ELS supports our students to maximise their academic learning (e.g. assignments and examinations) as well as help overseas students adapt quickly to UK academic requirements. The ELS provides a huge range of services, including various workshops run during term time, 1-1 consultations and vast printed and online resources to cater for every possible development area.

Whilst at Bradford you will also have the chance to join over 100 societies from the breakdancing society to the debating society – there are many ways to get involved. You will have access to a wide range of facilities on campus and we are also a sustainable campus with herb gardens across campus and our own beehives. Students at Bradford have a #teambradford approach and you will be welcomed into this community both academically and socially.
