How to access our service

Prospective students

If you are thinking of coming or have recently applied to the University of Bradford, don’t wait until you have arrived to make contact with us.  We can arrange for you to talk to a member of our team about what support is on offer here at the University. To contact us please complete the request support form.

Current students

If you identify as having a mental health condition, please get in touch to discuss how we can support you with your studies.

If you have not already registered with our service, please complete the request support form. Our team will then be in touch to discuss how we can help you to access appropriate support. You can find out more on our SharePoint site (university login required).

Why it's important to contact us early

If you're thinking about coming to Bradford, it's never too early to contact us. We'd be happy to arrange a meeting with you to discuss the ways that we can support you before you arrive and while you're studying here.

We encourage all prospective and current students to get in touch with us to arrange an appointment. We can offer advice and guidance on:

  • the support available to you while studying with us
  • the application process for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
  • Please be aware not all students are eligible for DSA. This is dependent on eligibility criteria.

Please get in touch via the request support form or visit us at an Open Day.

Further resources and information

What can I expect during my appointment?

One of our mental health advisors will talk with you about your mental health condition and how it impacts on your life at university and your ability to study.

They can offer you practical advice and guidance on managing your mental health which may include signposting to other services, putting in place reasonable adjustments, accessing study coaches, and exploring whether you are eligible for DSA funding.

We can also liaise with academic staff and other support services, if appropriate and with your consent, to enable you to engage with your university life as fully as possible.

Are my appointments with the Mental Health Service confidential?

Your mental health advisor will talk you through our Consent to Share form. You can choose to give:

  • full consent to share on a 'need to know' basis
  • restricted consent to share
  • no consent to share

It is important that you understand the implications of your consent, and we will explain this in detail.

If your mental health advisor believes there is a serious threat of harm to yourself or anyone else, they may need to break confidentiality. Whenever possible they would discuss this with you first.
