Ruth Lefever, Student Experience Manager

Ruth Ruth joined the University of Bradford in 2009 and has over 10 years experience working in Higher Education. Her previous research and activity covered the first year experience, student retention, welfare and support, student representation, widening participation, internationalisation and student resilience. Ruth’s current work at Bradford continues to focus on the student experience and includes student engagement, supporting transitions into and through university and peer support, as well as obtaining and analysing student feedback and developing student experience policy. She has worked extensively with students and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and is keen to establish and foster working partnerships. Her particular interests include qualitative research, student peer community building, notions of belonging, mature and part-time students and gender issues.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and developing student experience and engagement activities and projects.  This includes the university's Peer Assisted Learning scheme and the Student Participation Project for the Bradford Excellence Programme's Student Adminsitration workstream.
  • Managing the University's 'trans:it' programmes 
  • Liaising with and supporting Faculties in student experience/engagement work
  • External and internal student experience research work in order to be able to understand and enhance the student experience – which includes: analysis of the NSS and national PTES & PRES, the internal Bradford Student  Survey (BSS) and other student feedback mechanisms
  • Qualitative research (e.g. student focus groups, interviews, videos etc.)
  • Bespoke work as requested (e.g. for Faculties, programmes or for particular student groups)
  • Evaluation and development – such as engagement and success initiatives and student experience policies
  • Contributing to student and staff development by designing and delivering skills workshops
  • Managing and creating student employability opportunities (e.g. research assistants, interns and student consultants)
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the university and developing the ‘Students as Partners’ initiative

Ruth is also the Chair of the Univerity's Gender Staff Forum.
