Tom Pettinger works on security, space, and affect - across the disciplines of sociology, IR, and geography. He studies predominantly how British and European counter-terrorism operates, with particular reference to Britain and Northern Ireland. He has published in the British Journal of Sociology, Environment and Planning C, and Critical Studies on Terrorism.
Tom conducted his doctoral studies at the University of Warwick on British 'counter-radicalization' Prevent programme (2016-2020). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and previously convened the BISA Critical Studies on Terrorism working group (2019-2023).
