Tim Kilgallon
Biography
Tim is the Programme Leader for the Working with Children, Young People and Families Degree Programme.
Tim has over 40 years’ experience in the field of Social Work and Social Care.
Beginning work in a therapeutic community for children who had experienced severe trauma and then working in a residential setting for children and young people with severe physical and learning disabilities as part of the long stay hospital programme.
After studying at Durham Tim qualified as a Social Worker in 1989. Following qualification, he has taken on a wide variety of work in many different professional settings, including work with children and families, working in family placement, work with adults and children with learning disabilities and work with people with mental health problems, Child Protection, Adult Services, Mental Health and training and development.
Specific roles undertaken included Managing a Unit providing therapeutic response to children experiencing trauma, working directly with children living within a secure setting, managing a joint team of Social Workers, Nurses and Occupational Therapists, Emergency Duty Work, Providing Social Work Input to Mental Health Tribunals, Child Protection and Safeguarding and Managing Fostering Agencies.
Since 2004 Tim worked as part of an agency which undertook various roles including directly supporting Foster Carers and Fostered Children, providing regulated qualification across a wide range of social care and social work settings, including Registered Management in training, service development, management and compliance, as well as working with Premiership Football Clubs to assist them develop Safeguarding responses and staff training. Tim began working at Bradford University in 2015 as an Associate Lecturer and took on a full time post with the University in 2020.
