As a childrens nurse, most of my career has been spent in the challenging fields of intensive care and retrieval nursing. Alongside this I have always had a keen interest in nursing education and supporting students and staff in practice, particularly as clinical educator. Throughout my career I have contributed to data collection for studies ongoing in the clinical units where I worked. This has included diverse topics such as antibiotic coated central lines, pain, gastric emptying times, and patients’ and families’ experiences of intensive care. As part of my Master’s degree I undertook a service development project examining the effects of the current induction and development programme for nurses new to paediatric intensive care on sickness absence and retention.
