Biography

IfiokOtung is a CharteredEngineer, Professor of Space Engineering, and Director of theBradford-Renduchintala Centre for Space AI, University of Bradford, UK. He wasformerly Professor of Satellite Communications at the University of South Waleswhere he established PhD training and research as well as twoprofessionally accredited and highly successful MSc degrees in the subject. Priorto that, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey where his workwas focused on satellite link measurements and channel modelling.

Ifiokholds a PhD in Satellite Communications from the University of Surrey, UK andFirst-Class Honours and Master’s degrees in Electrical and ElectronicEngineering from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He is anaward-winning academic with a broad international experience in Scholarship,Teaching, Industrial collaboration, and Research (STIR).

Ifiokis Associate Editor of Journal of Engineering, Editor of Advances inCommunications Satellite Systems, Technical Program Chair of the InternationalCommunications Satellite Systems Conference (ICSSC), Accreditor for the Institutionof Engineering and Technology (IET), and member of the CommunicationSystems Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics andAstronautics (AIAA).

ProfessorOtung is sole author of several major textbooks used in top universities aroundthe world, such as Oxford, Cambridge and UCL in the UK. These books include CommunicationEngineering Principles 2E (Wiley, 2021, 952 pages, ISBN978-1119274025), Digital Communications Principles and Systems (IET,2014, 500 pages, ISBN 978-1849196116), etc.

Ifiokhas served as Consultant and Principal Investigator for various research anddevelopment organisations, and as External Examiner of taught programmes at universitiesin Scotland and England. He has supervised over 150 MSc and PhDcandidates, and contributed to around 200 technicaloutputs in Journals, conferences, and workshops.

Professor Otung’s research coversSpace Technology (radio resource management, high throughput satellite(HTS) systems, design of ultra-reliable LEO satellite downlinks forhyperspectral earth observation and imaging, fade and interference predictionand mitigation, mobile satellite channel modelling and performance enhancement,radio wave propagation), Signal Processing (AI, signal detection, radar,satellite beacon and meteorological data analysis and modelling, GNSS filtersdesign), and Wireless communication (security, bandwidth- andenergy-efficient RF signal design, array antennas, 5G/6G-satellite integrationand harmonisation).
