Biography

I started my career in teaching having taken professional teaching qualifications at Bingley College (formerly part of the University of Leeds). I also hold (separately) an MPhil and a PhD for research in the areas of architecture and landscape.

I have been a senior lecturer, Associate Dean and Director of Postgraduate Studies in the School of Lifelong Education and Development, but on that School's closure moved to Archaeological and Forensic Sciences where I am presently an Honorary Visiting Post-Doctoral Fellow. Membership of professional bodies and professional duties include:

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
  • Board member of People, Landscapes and Cultural Environment (PLACE), a research centre supported by York St John University
  • External examining formerly at the University of Sunderland, University of Exeter, Southampton Solent University, and Sheffield Hallam University; currently at the University of Wolverhampton
My interests are in the politics of landscape, urban environments and architecture, with a regional focus. My current project is concerned with the architectural development of Yorkshire's coastal towns
