Gary’s background is in psychology, though he has worked most of his academic career in social care research. He has participated in studies of family carers and employment needs, the use of assistive technologies in health and social care, and supporting people with dementia. He has conducted national evaluations of government funded programmes, reviews of local authority schemes, and service reviews of voluntary organisation schemes. He is currently researching the service support needs of people with dementia and their family carers from south Asian backgrounds. 


Gary's research interests include:

  1. Providing support for family carers of sick or disabled people.
  2. The use of technologies as a way of supporting families providing health and social care.
  3. Service support schemes operated by voluntary groups.
