Biography
I am a social worker turned academic. I graduated from the University of Bradford over 10 years ago as a qualified social worker and went straight into practice.
My specialisms include hospital and hospice social work and I have worked in palliative care in a local hospice and was privileged to support individuals and their families in the end of life care that people needed.
My extensive working in hospitals throughout Yorkshire have been both challenging and interesting to see how the care people require to be able to be discharged safely has its own limitations . During the Covid era , I returned to work in hospitals to try and ensure people were discharged safely . Working during the pandemic was a difficult time in hospitals and it gave me an opportunity to use many skills I had learnt over the years in practice.
Prior to studying to be a social worker , I had worked for West Yorkshire Probation Service . The work I undertook included working with offenders in the CBT programmes who had drug and alcohol issues , and men convicted of Domestic Violence these were programmes that were available to the Probation Service. I learned many skills and developed a clear understanding of the criminal justice system and the ways in which offenders can be rehabilitated.
