Dr. Amizan Omar

Dr Amizan Omar is an Associate Professor in Strategic Management at the School of Management, University of Bradford, and serves as the Director of Accreditation for the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences. Her interdisciplinary research is driven by a passion for exploring the institutionalisation of digital technology in organisations, with a particular focus on the public sector. She investigates the role of digital technologies and their interactions with institutional actors and structures, especially in the context of public service transformation and their implications for addressing managerial and societal challenges towards sustainable societies.

Dr Omar has an impressive publication record, with over 30 scientific articles featured in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences. She has also served as a Co-Investigator on multi-million-pound research projects funded by the European Commission (FP7 and H2020) and UK Local Government. Her expertise is recognised globally, evidenced by her invited membership on the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of Information Technology (JIT) and the Journal of Electronic Government Research (IJEGR). Additionally, she chaired the digital government mini-track for the 2022 Americas Conference on Information Systems. Dr Omar is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and an active member of both the British Academy of Management (BAM) and the Association for Information Systems (AIS).

My broad area of research interest and expertise is interdisciplinary focusing on the use of emerging digital technology for the betterment of society, especially in the context of public sector. This is due to my 15 years’ experience working on different roles in one of the leading government agencies in Malaysia, including as the Assistant Director of Talent Management in Human Resource Division and the Chief Assistant Director of Business Development Unit in Transportation Industry Division. My current and evolving research interests include exploring the role of actors and structures in the adoption of digital-led transformation in the context of public service, implication of disruptive technology and circular economy on talent management, the ethics of artificial intelligence in the HRM context and other public sector innovation and transformation in general.
