Biography

I joined the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies in September 2015 where I currently work as an Assistant Professor in Dementia Studies. I am the  Programme Leader for the PgCert/PgDip/MSc Advanced Dementia Studies and Module Leader for the 'Evaluating dementia practice' and 'Leading change in practice' modules. My background is in Gerontology and I hold a PhD in Gerontology and Geriatrics. My PhD thesis was entitled “Supporting dementia care workers – exploring the effects of a psycho-educational intervention”. I have varied research interests - care home workforce, improving person-centred care; technology in dementia care; and living with dementia and other conditions.

I have been involved in a number of research studies, including · 

  • Love to Move, funded by British Gymnastics Foundation (2020-2022)
  • Understanding the relationship, intimacy and sexual needs of people affected by dementia and partners who live in the community, funded by Sheffield Health andSocial Care NHS Foundation Trust, ResearchCapacity Funding grant (2018)
  • Falls in Care Homes (FinCH), funded by the National Institutefor Health Research. University of Nottingham (UK) (2016-2019)
  • Sounds4Health (COPD),funded by Portuguese National Research Council (2010-2011)
  • Using ICF to develop interventions for people livingwith advanced dementia and their carers. Funded by Portuguese Foundation for Science andTechnology (FCT) (2010)

I am currently part of the INTERDEM taskforce group on Technology and Dementia and website commitee. 

Within the University I am:
