Announcement from the Dean
I am excited to inform you all that as of 1 April 2018 I will become the Executive Dean for the Faculty of Management and Law, and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Work is underway to bring the current Faculty of Management and Law and Faculty of Social Sciences together as a new Faculty as of 1 August 2018. The purpose of merging the two faculties is to enhance the opportunities for innovation and interdisciplinary working and placing Law, Management and Social Sciences at the heart of the University.
It is vital we provide courses that are cross-disciplinary, where the disciplines are integrated, as it allows for more context-specific programmes that better suit industry and prepare students for jobs – make sure you read my blog on the benefits of interdisciplinary working.
As a technology university we will only be able to contribute towards resolving the complex challenges of the 21st century by addressing our three academic themes – sustainable societies, advanced healthcare, and innovative engineering - by collaborating across the University in ways which cultivate and enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research within our existing area of strength, with expertise from Law, Management and Social Sciences
For the first part of the new operation the Faculty will be based at both City Campus and Emm Lane. I will have an office on both campuses and the new faculty will be made up of three schools: Law, Management and Social Sciences.
I look forward to leading this new chapter for the University and being part of this exciting direction.
Professor Zahir Irani
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management and Law, and the Faculty of Social Sciences
