About the scholarship

The University of Bradford is delighted to announce the Professor Rae Earnshaw Masters Scholarship for Computer Science.  

This scholarship will be awarded to one postgraduate student and will cover the full tuition fees for the duration of one year for self-funding Home/EU students or part funding for an International student for September 2020 start. 

The criteria for the awarding of scholarships are based on academic excellence, those with the best potential to succeed, and financial need. 

As an MSc student you will join our high-quality postgraduate taught and research team that includes other MSc and PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and academic staff. You will also have opportunities to attend our long-standing research seminars and industry talks organised by the research groups, and benefit from the successful?AAA (Advanced Automotive Analytics) Research Institute, the Cyber Security Interdisciplinary Centre, the?Digital Health Enterprise Zone, the Internet of Things lab and?Computing Enterprise Centre’s industry inspired and research projects in Big Data, Open Data, Smart Cities and Internet of Things. We partner with top Smart Cities in Europe in research and knowledge transfer projects, such as the?European North Sea Interreg SCORE: Smart Cities + Open data RE-use?that will offer you opportunities to develop your dissertation for cutting edge big data challenges within an international top collaborative environment. For example, this year’s student project portfolio processed data from NHS Bradford Trusts, Bradford Metropolitan City Council, Digital Health Enterprise Zone, British Geological Survey and the British Library, stock market as well as open data, AAA Research Institute and international research projects (such as?EC SEURAT-1 COSMOS). The University of Bradford is also offering comprehensive doctoral training programme. 

Emeritus Professor Rae Earnshaw is a leading scientist with the University of Bradford who is donating the scholarship to cover the cost of the tuition fee at Home/EU level (part fee for International students) in the Postgraduate Computer Science specialism area. The University of Bradford continues to be a pioneer in the area of Computer Science within higher education in the UK, offering a wide spread of courses at an undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as undertaking research that creates a positive impact to society and academia. 

Eligibility criteria

The criteria for selection are academic excellence and financial need. 

  •       Self-funding Home/EU or International students
  •       The successful candidate will have first class honours degree in a relevant topic
  •       Scholarships are awarded to the student who submits the best statement on the application form          as judged by the panel. The panel decision is final

Payment amount & frequency

For Home/EU students, the scholarship covers full tuition fees for the applicable course. 

For International students, the scholarship covers part of the tuition fees – up to £8160.?International students would be expected to cover the additional associated tuition fees
