Overview

The University of Bradford is participating in the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) and will provide 428 scholarships for 2013.

Students who already hold a degree or who have had some previous study at University level are not eligible for the award.

The programme is designed to help people from low income families wanting to access Higher Education for the first time. The scholarships are jointly funded by the Government and the University.

The majority of students do not need to make a direct application for a National Scholarship award. You will be automatically assessed as long as you apply for government support through Student Finance England before the advertised deadline.

We may ask you to provide additional documentation to confirm your eligibility.

Payment amount and frequency

  • £1,500 off your tuition fees in year one
  • £1,000 towards your first year accommodation in our student village – The Green (if you are not living in The Green you will get a further £1,000 off your tuition fees)
  • £500 loaded onto a Smartcard that will enable you to pay for University services e.g. food, printing, photocopying etc.
  • Students who receive the NSP in their first year will also have their placement year fees waived if they are on a Sandwich course.

Eligibility

These will be applied in the order given:

  • Students permanently resident in England and classed as a “home” student for funding purposes
  • Students entering higher education for the first time in 2013
  • Assessed income of under £25,000 (students in receipt of a full grant)
  • Have made the University of Bradford your firm choice  via UCAS
  • Applied to Student Finance England by the deadline to be guaranteed to receive loan and grant payments in time for the start of the academic year (usually the end of May)
  • Full-time students on courses with a £9,000 fee, excluding Social Work (Care Leavers (not in receipt of fee support from their local authority) will be able to receive the NSP even if they are studying Social Work or are on a reduced fee course)
  • Care Leavers (not in receipt of fee support through their local authority as part of their leaving care package)* and students living in Low Participation Neighbourhoods – areas where it is not traditional for people to attend University (assessed from the lowest quintile  by postcode and then upwards according to income)**

If we still have more than 428 students after applying the above criteria we will then take into account academic achievement and award the scholarship to highest achieving eligible students on each course.

Eligible countries

  • England
