Ocular Imaging

Cornea image

Our ocular imaging suite, shared with the School of Optometry and Vision Science, is thoroughly equipped to carry out a extensive range of visual assessments.

The kinds of assessments we carry out on a regular basis include:

  • Comprehensive eye examinations including facilities to assess infants and young children
  • A range of colour vision tests including anomaloscope testing
  • Tailor-made psychophysical tests to assess contrast vision under a range of different light levels
  • Advanced techniques include assessment and monitoring of binocular vision and pattern-related visual stress, particularly in relation to reading difficulties

A list of equipment at the facility is as follows:

  • Binocular wavefront sensing and adaptive optics for the measurement of higher-order ocular aberrations
  • Corneal topography (Orbscan)
  • Ocular biometry (IOLMaster)
  • Visual field perimetry (Humphrey Field Analyser and Frequency Doubling Technology)
  • P_SCAN system, capable of assessing contrast sensitivity, motion, colour, mesopic vision, ocular and intraocular light scatter
  • Advanced optic disc assessment and retinal nerve fibre layer analysis (Optical Coherence Tomography and Scanning Laser Polarimetry)
  • Retinal & anterior segment photography including endothelial imaging and optomap (peripheral retinal) imaging
  • Anterior segment imaging (Optical coherence tomography)
