Dr Karolis Vilcinskas
|RKT Centre||Polymer Micro and Nano Technology|
Karolis finished his undergraduate studies (2009) and postgraduate studies (2011) in Chemical Engineering in Lithuania, and briefly worked in the plastic industry.
In 2012, he embarked on a PhD project at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), which he successfully completed and was awarded a doctoral degree for his work on the properties of (reduced) graphene oxide-alginate biopolymer films in 2016.
Since October 2016, Karolis has been working as a KTP associate under the supervision of Dr Ben Whiteside. This Knowledge Transfer Partnership is a collaboration between the University of Bradford and BNL Bearings (Knaresborough), which is the world leader in integrated plastic bearing solutions for variety of industries, most notably the automotive sector. In his KTP project, Karolis looks for polymeric materials that are suitable for the polymer rolling bearing applications in the automotive steering columns; employs various material characterization techniques to gain better insight into the properties & performance of polymer bearings; investigates polymer structure-product properties-manufacturing process relationships; aims to validate polymer bearing performance and lifetime prediction.
